Every 10 years ending in zero, the U.S. Decennial Census counts each resident of the country on April 1st. The Decennial Data Users Group (Decennial DUG) is a hub for users to share information on related data products and issues. As a PRB intern, I created a mini brand system guide focused on a new logo, favicon, and website graphics.
The Logo
A hub for discussion, I sought to incorporate this in a logo that would properly represent the Decennial DUG in a simple but effective way. With a heavy focus on data every 10 years in 10 categories, while counting each individual in the U.S., I combined elements of one and zero in a Sotoshi font to create the letter D, featuring a speech bubble within the negative space. Building off its relationship with the American Community Survey (ACS), both feature the same blue color scheme, with the Decennial DUG coming in with a pop of red further to signify its ties with resident data in the U.S. The Satoshi font gives a friendly and approachable feeling while still providing a professional look.
