Spam Musubi Workshops has been in the scene since 2015, providing free dance workshops in the DMV area. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, Spam is a space for everyone to experience the joy of dance, completely run and enjoyed by its community. With their 10th anniversary coming up in 2025, I was contacted to revise their current logo and to create merchandise.
The logo
Not wanting to stray too far from their previous logo, my goal was to create a logo that felt familiar and refreshing to those who have been with the Spam community all these years. The logo features an askewed spam musubi set from an above angle. The sides of the piece of spam, which is separated by the nori, create an S and M, standing for Spam Musubi (The name they are most known by). This revised logo provides a clean and playful take that can be used on social media, the web, and merchandise.

Merch Design
The merch design combines the organization's upbeat and energetic dance community with a font similar to the classic canned meat brand. Using silhouettes of previous dance instructors who taught classes for Spam, the t-shirt and hoodie designs feature a dancer radiating at the center, with Musubi handwritten in a bubbly font with rice bits alongside the Spam font to create a visually engaging look. The sweatpants are simplified, featuring Spam Musubi in the bubbly font for those wanting to show their love for Spam Musubi while staying warm during workshops.
